Frequently Asked Questions

Is NKP open during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Yes - Norma's Kiddie Preschool is open during this time.

What precautions are you taking to keep children safe during this time?

A great deal of precautions -- and we are regularly updating our procedures to be in line with best practices from the Center for Disease Control, State of California, local ordinances, and Contra Costa Childcare Council.

Some examples of how we have prioritized the safety of both staff and children are:

  • When teachers arrive, they must wash their hands immediately

  • Parents/guardians must drop off at the front door and cannot enter the daycare at this time. Both the parent/family member and the child must use hand sanitizer at the front entrance. Once the child enters the daycare, they wash their hands inside.

  • We are washing the nap mats and bedding daily, including pillowcases

  • Each day, we sanitize all of the toys with a safe, effective cleaner

  • Our staff mop the floors daily and thoroughly clean tables and high chairs between uses

  • Staff (and children) must wash their hands before and after meal times

Norma has completed the "Health and Safety in Child Care Settings During Covid-19 Pandemic" training, provided by CocoKids and California Child Care Initiative Project

What is your approach to discipline/unwanted behaviors?

First and foremost, we believe that by being attentive caregivers, we can stop negative behaviors before they happen or become a larger issue. We believe in redirecting children who are misbehaving, so they make positive choices instead. As needed, we may have them take a time-out, so they can calm down before rejoining play.

Are you open year-round? If we sign up, is it for a full year?

We are open year round, and closely follow the San Ramon Valley Unified School District (SRVUSD) calendar for holidays/breaks

We do not have a specified contract term, and welcome new families year-round.

What is the teacher:child ratio?

Our ratio for teachers to children is currently 1:4 (3 full-time staff members, and 12 children in our care).

Do you accommodate children with food allergies?

Yes - we are able to accommodate most children with food allergies. Because the meals we prepare are homemade, we can adjust recipes to ensure they meet such needs. If you have specific concerns, please discuss this with us, and we are happy to work with you!
